The Lord Jesus once told His disciples that their future was to eat and drink at His table, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel (Luke 22: 28-30). That was their destiny! The disciples after this could have gone ahead dancing and rejoicing and living recklessly since they already knew their future. But right after making that statement, He said to Peter "Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: but I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren." (Luke 22: 31-33). Think about it? If whatever Peter did wouldn't change his destiny, why did the Lord Jesus pray for him that his faith should not fail? You see, faith is very important to your future as a Christian. You have a destiny in God. But if it's going to work out, you have to do something about your faith. Peter confidently told the Master he would never withdraw from Him, but then, Jesus told him he would deny Him thrice before the cock crowed (Luke 22: 34).Now again, you may think that since Jesus already told Peter he would deny Him, it meant he was destined to, and that he couldn't do anything aboutit, because no matter what he did, it could never change what was meant to happen. Well, No! Peter could have changed it. He was not of the devil as Judas was (John 6:70-71). And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, AND SAITH UNTO PETER, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak."(Matthew 26:40-41). This was the hour of prayer because the hour of temptation was close at hand. Peter's faith was about to be tried, but he didn't realize it. Peter didn't have to deny Jesus. He had already told him to watch and pray because temptation lay ahead. Isn't this amazing? Not long after the Master had told him what the future was, the devil showed up. That's just how quickly the devil comes when you know your destiny in God. This is why you ought to be very careful how you hear the Word of God and how you pray. Don't let the Word of God become common and ineffective in your life. Together with prayer, the Word secures your destiny in God.
