What does the Bible say about worry?

The Bible says to cast all your cares on God, because He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7). Instead of worrying, bring every concern to Him in prayer with thanksgiving, and His peace — which passes all understanding — will guard your heart and mind (Philippians 4:6–7).

Worry is the mind rehearsing problems God has already promised to handle. Jesus addressed it directly: "Take no thought for your life… your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things" (Matthew 6). Worry adds nothing — but prayer changes everything.

God’s alternative to worry is not pretending problems don’t exist; it is transferring their weight to Him. The scriptures below teach you how to make that exchange — care for peace — and the related devotionals will help you practice it daily.

Scriptures on Freedom from Worry

Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
1 Peter 5:7 (KJV)
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7 (KJV)
Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
Matthew 6:26 (KJV)
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Matthew 11:28 (KJV)
Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.
Psalm 55:22 (KJV)

A Confession for a Care-Free Heart

I cast every care upon the Lord, for He cares for me. I refuse to be anxious about anything; instead, I make my requests known to God with thanksgiving, and His peace garrisons my heart and mind. My Father knows what I need, and He supplies it. I rest in Him.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I stop worrying about everything?

Practice the exchange in Philippians 4:6–7: name the worry, turn it into a specific prayer, add thanksgiving, and leave it with God. Each time the thought returns, respond with the promise rather than the problem. Reading a daily devotional trains your mind toward this pattern.

What is the difference between concern and worry?

Concern moves you to pray and act wisely; worry loops on the problem without faith or action. Scripture invites you to be diligent and prayerful, but never anxious — because your Father has taken responsibility for your care.

What did Jesus say about worrying?

In Matthew 6:25–34 Jesus said not to take anxious thought for tomorrow, pointing to how God feeds the birds and clothes the lilies. His conclusion: seek first the kingdom of God, and everything you need will be added to you.
